4.75yo Steps

“I don’t have to be scared.  I know those 2 teachers.” says Ada as she goes back into swim as a silverfish/goldfish after 4 months.

When she comes home, she says “Mommy, I am going to get into bed now and take my nap by myself.”

guess things are changing.  Time to let go, again…   A micro-practice 🙂

Ada’s Experiment

Ada decided to make a soup. It was super yummy. First, got beans. Then got a muffin tray. Put the beans in the muffin tray. Then put some water in, using a little pouring cup. Then put it in the oven.

We waited 30 min while we ate dinner. Then, we looked at it and wondered some questions and made some observations:

– some were wet and some we’re dry
– Ada wondered what the cashews would taste like
– I wondered what the dry brown pasta would taste like

Then we tried it. Ada said “yum yum”. Hamid and I were surprised, the beans were a bit cooked. We were all very proud.

Double meanings…

Ada’s discovery.  Lots of words have double meanings… Funny!

It started with:

– ‘bat’ and ‘bat’ (the animal and the baseball implement) …ha! ha!

Then it evolved to:

– ‘bump into’ and ‘bump into’ (physically bump and find someone in the grocery store)
– ‘play with” and ‘play with’ (regular and ‘play’ with your phone)

Then it just took off:
– one two, one too! (numbers, me too)
– pool, pool (swimming and car pool)
– orange and orange (fruit and color)
– see and sea and “C”
– which and witch

Now we’re finding double meanings everywhere.  Physical and figurative meanings popping through everywhere we go… Very cool!

Cherry Picking

We had an awesome day cherry picking with our friends Jeannie and Mark (+3 kids) and Aske and Twan (+1 kid) on Saturday.  ‘Boy did we get cherries!

There is something amazing and very biological about walking through a grove of fruit trees putting warm fruit in your mouth.  We are designed for this! Social, gathering, animals! Juice dripping down your chin.  We were all mesmerized.  No matter how we started, soon we were all like Sufi poets – or hunter gatherers on miraculous summer day, wandering through, noticing leaves, comparing fruits, ooh’ing and eating warm bulbs, sharing and laughing, wandering and parenting each others’ children.  Everyone fanned out, zig zagged through, and eventually ended up plopped in a dusty clump under the shade of a few beautiful trees.

We had a picnic lunch.

Picked some strawberries at another patch.  And headed home.

Our route was filled with horses, cows, goats, sheep, a few hawks and a beautiful winding road through ranches and farms.  + not a more bountiful day

Gosh, after this, even our amazing local market seemed like nothing like the nirvana of fruit as they are made and created.
